What sets this tour apart:
A challenging but rewarding climb on a full day activity tour in Kuching
What you’ll see or do:
Mt. Santubong, Kuching’s answer to Mt Kinabalu in Sabah? Not quite, but it’s still a pretty tough and challenging climb!
From the sea level, Mt Santubong dominates the flat coastline of Western Sarawak with its irregular rainforest covered peaks rising steeply to 810m, forming a catchment for numerous streams and the sanctuary for a variety of wildlife. This challenging hike involves some steep climbs, including up rope ladders, but the trail is well made, and it provides very rewarding views from the top.
After a 30 minutes transfer from the city, we registered at the Mount Santubong National Park ranger office at the start of the trailhead. The trail passes through beautiful and diverse rainforest and offers a good opportunity for seeing wildlife. There are several rest stops along the climb to catch breath and take in the unfolding views as the climb ascent. The trail is often covered with tree roots but turns rocky closer to the peak that requires the assistance of ropes and ladders at several challenging places.
Mount Santubong is the highest peak on the range of mountains on the Santubong Peninsula. The highest peak offers the spectacular view of the South China Sea on the one side and the lower mountain ranges on the other. After conquering the peak, pack lunch will be served and a good time to take memorable selfies to congratulate the achievement of the climb. On descent, a pretty waterfall offers a great way to cool off at the end of the walk.
